My South Africa Tour brings you to the warm sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean. Relax and enjoy the slow tempo of the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The coast is dotted with many towns, some with a vibrant holiday atmosphere and others sleepy villages with not much more than sandy beaches. My South Africa Tour is based in the Ramsgate, and in perfect reach of many of the areas best attractions. Whatever your choice you are sure to have the perfect beach holiday.

Beaches
The lower South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal is dotted with hundreds of small beaches and coves as well as several main beaches such as the Ramsgate beach, which carries an internationally recognized Blue Flag status because it is hygienic with clean toilet facilities, information boards, shark nets and life guards. The beaches are white sand beaches and the annual water temperature averages around 21 degrees Celsius. All main beaches have restaurants and pubs or coffee shops, and many have canoeing opportunities on their river inlet lagoons.

Sardine Run

Countless millions of tiny silver fish heading north from spawning and feeding grounds off the Eastern Cape reach Zulu Kingdom waters at our southernmost seaside resort town of Port Edward. Sardines do not as a rule find the Zulu Kingdom's warm stretch of Indian Ocean to their liking, the vast shoals prefer to enact their short, yet virulent life cycles near the surface of the Cape Province's cold to icy cold waters. But each year around June or July, however, when our Hibiscus Coast sea temperature drops by a mere four or five Degrees Celsius from its average midsummer high of 21 Degrees, sardines off the Eastern Cape mistakenly sense a potential expansion of habitat to their north. A narrow continental shelf thereafter ensures that the shoal proceeds close to shore - and in mortal danger throughout its journey.

Common dolphins by far exceed their fellow competitors for the silver bounty, forming enormous pods of up to five thousand animals each. In all about 20-thousand dolphins plus thousands of sharks, hundreds of fur seals, uncountable game fish and the occasional whale attack the shoal, which runs for several weeks. This is most intense along our Hibiscus Coast, then gradually lessening as the shoal is constantly harvested the further north it gets. Some fish may cover a distance of 200 kilometers.

Ocean Activities
Scuba Diving : KwaZulu-Natal has some excellent dive spots, including the Aliwal Shoal, Protea Banks and drift diving at Sodwana Bay. My South Africa Tour can arrange scuba diving excursions with reputable and safe operators.

Deep Sea Fishing: Daily fishing expeditions leave from the launch site in Shelly Beach.

Whale and Dolphin Watching: Jump on board a light craft that will follow the shore in search of dolphins and whales. The best time of year is during the Sardine Run in July.
